책 소개
This is a history of the shift from an organic, labor-assisted energy regime in the mid-Atlantic United States, in which energy-users inhabited an embodied experience of their energy choices, to a fossil-fuel dependent regime that stripped away that embodiment, and the unsustainable consequences of that shift. The history emphasizes certain findings about the paths to dependency: that the routes of energy-transport infrastructure played a key role in establishing shifts in energy usage, that historical energy transitions were in large part driven by supply-side considerations of energy entrepreneurs rather than the perceived needs of energy consumers, and that these energy-supply and -usage transitions had and have major social dimensions that are too often ignored in conversations over energy infrastructure and usage.
