The International Energy Agency defines energy security as “the uninterrupted availability of energy sources at an affordable price”. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine triggered a gas supply and affordability crisis in the EU. This tested the EU’s gas security of supply framework and led to the adoption of a number of temporary security of supply measures at EU level as the EU diversifies away from Russian pipeline gas to rely more on liquified natural gas.
