CEA Consulting (CEA) worked with Clean Air Task Force (CATF) to investigate the role hydrogen can play to advance decarbonization of the trucking sector. Specifically, CEA surveyed fleet owners/operators, truck manufacturers, hydrogen producers, and hydrogen fueling station operators to better understand their expectations about future long-haul heavy-duty (Class 7 & 8) trucking routes, duty cycles, and fleet energy requirements, as well as their projections about the capital and operating expenses associated with various zero-emission trucking technologies. CEA used the information gathered from the interviews and other research to develop a report on the projected role of hydrogen-powered trucks in the U.S. (i.e., their market share), the key opportunities and barriers for the purchase and operation of hydrogen truck fleets.
