This paper discusses the role of biomass and biofuels in U.S. decarbonization and the need to prevent land use change to ensure real climate benefits. The analysis shows that biomass is a limited and valuable resource that requires accurate carbon accounting and guardrails to ensure it truly supports decarbonization. We recommend that investment and incentives should be channeled toward innovative biomass uses like carbon removal.
