This comment reviews the reported Russian industry data on associated petroleum gas (APG) production and utilization with an aim to better understand the reasons for stubbornly high volumes of APG flaring, focusing on the largest offenders. It discusses the main uses of APG at or near production sites, and their limitations, as well as new potential areas for APG utilization such as bitcoin mining and AI energy-intensive applications.
