India is committed to reducing the emissions intensity of its GDP by 45% by 2030 from 2005 levels, and achieving net zero emissions by 2070, as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement. Achieving these goals requires a fundamental shift across sectors, with the transportation sector—accounting for approximately 14% of India’s energy sector carbon dioxide emissions—being critical for decarbonisation.
